Baby Blue Eyes
Nemophila menziesii
Baby Blue Eyes is a low growing, plant producing clusters of sky blue blooms with white centers and feathery light green foliage. Ideal for rock gardens or working into the front of a border. It is deer resistant, a favorite with bees and butterflies, and will self-sow freely if allowed to go to seed.
When to Plant Outdoors
Install in desired location after all danger of frost is past. Optimal soil temperature is 55 to 65 degrees. Baby Blue Eyes performs well in partial shade but in cooler climates can tolerate full sun.
Moisten prepared soil thoroughly. Using scissors, cut seed mats as desired. Each mat can yield 2, 3, 6, or 12 sections depending on your needs. Now, place each section where desired on the moistened soil and water thoroughly. Seed in a Blanket® is designed to hug the ground when moistened so it will stay in place. At this point, it cannot be lifted up in one piece. Do not cover mat with soil.
Water frequently to keep seed mat moist until the second set of leaves are fully extended. Do not let the mat dry out. Germination should occur within 2 weeks depending upon weather and soil conditions.
Tip – Keep planting area weed-free and remove blooms from plants when past their prime. Leave some spent blooms if seeding around is desired.
