The  Nantucket Basket Set features 2 hand-woven baskets designed in the Nantucket tradition and a sunny selection of yellow and white flowers with a splash of crimson.  The set comes will two 7" high by 13" wide baskets, their own plastic liners, and two Instant Flower Garden® seeded mats.  As always, a little extra care will insure you have maximum results from your Instant Flower Garden® product.

Varieties - Alyssum (Lobularia maritima), Calendula (Calendula officinalis), Dahlia (Dahlia variabilis), and English Daisy (Bellis perennis) 

General Installation and Watering - Fill each container with potting soil to within 1" of the top.  Place the seeded mats over the soil as described in Special Considerations below and water liberally being careful not to over saturate.  The Natucket Basket Set comes with a plastic liner, so you can use the container on a table top without concern for water drip-through.  It is important, however, that you avoid overwatering and provide just enough water for the soil to feel moist to the touch but not soggy.  See Garden Basics for detailed information about Soil Preparation for Containers, How to Store Unused Mats for Next Season, and other helpful tips.

Special Considerations -   For two seasons of beauty, follow these instructions.  Cut one seeded mat square in half diagonally.  Store the other for use next season. Cut each half section in half again so that you have four equal triangles.  Arrange two of the triangles on top of the soil in each planter so that they form a square.  Note that the mat material will only partially cover the soil in order to allow plenty of room for the plants as they mature.

What I Can Expect - The Instant Flower Garden® Nantucket Basket Set plants will germinate in 1 to 2 weeks depending upon conditions and soil temperature.  Patience is necessary in this phase.  Cool evenings and overcast days can delay germination.  In addition, soil in container gardens such as the Nantucket Basket Set may warm a bit more slowly than in-ground conditions. Then, after the second set of leaves unfold, some thinning may be necessary to avoid crowding and allow for stronger mature plants.  Expect the Nantucket Basket Set flowers to grow to a height of 6 to 24 inches and continue to bloom throughout the season.
