The 14" Decorative Urn Planter is one of our most classic designs.  In season, it is bursting with a dramatic mix of seven colorful varieties that will add a lively accent to your patio or deck.  Consider using a pair of Decorative Urn Planters to make a welcoming statement at your front door.  As always, a little extra care will insure you have maximum results from your Instant Flower Garden® product. 

Varieties - Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum), Alyssum (Lobularia maritima), Calendula ( Calendula officinalis), Dahlia (Dahlia variabilis), English Daisy (Bellis perennis), Geranium (Pelargonium hybrida), and Johnny Jump Up (Viola cornuta),

General Installation & Watering - Fill the container with potting soil to within 1" of the top.  Place the seeded mat over the soil and water liberally being careful not to over saturate.  The Decorative Urn Planter comes with a plastic liner, so you can use the container on a table top without concern for water drip-through.  It is important, however, that you avoid overwatering and provide just enough water for the soil to feel moist to the touch but not soggy.  See Garden Basics for detailed information about Soil Preparation for Containers, How to Store Unused Mats for Next Season, and other helpful tips.
 

Special Considerations -  For two seasons of beauty, follow these instructions.  Cut the seeded mat square in half diagonally.  Store one section for use next season. Cut the other section in half again so that you have two equal triangles.  Arrange the two triangles on top of the soil in the planter so that they form a square.  Note that the mat material will only partially cover the soil in order to allow plenty of room for the plants as they mature.

What I Can Expect - The Instant Flower Garden® Decorative Urn Planter plants will germinate in 1 to 2 weeks depending upon conditions and soil temperature.  Patience is necessary in this phase.  Cool evenings and overcast days can delay germination.  In addition, soil in container gardens may warm a bit more slowly than in-ground conditions.  After the second set of leaves unfold, some thinning may be necessary to avoid crowding and allow for stronger mature plants.  Expect the Decorative Urn Planter flowers to grow to a height of 6 - 30 inches and continue blooming throughout the season.
